Roguelikes are a genre of game, or subgenre of RPG, usually involving an ASCII display of a tiled world, procedural generation of that world, turn-based gameplay, and less focus on plot and more on dungeon-crawling than most other RPGs. Usually they are played with the keyboard, and actions and events that happen are narrated through text to the player. There was actually a conference to define what a roguelike is, and its results are known as the Berlin Interpretation
Roguelikes are named such because they are "like" the original game, Rogue.
